Chorale and Capriccio for Band

Published by Shawnee Press | 1976 | 7 12 minutes
Published by Shawnee Press, this work has sold nearly a thousand copies, and has been performed and recorded internationally. The work received the prestigious "Reviewer's Choice" award from Instrumentalist magazine. Here's what they said: "Chorale and Capriccio for Band by Arne Running may be the strongest publication in its grade level for the current year. It combines extraordinary scoring, well-organized form, strong coloration, and listener appeal in a package that makes outstanding concert or contest material. It is a full grade IV, tempting to be called V for its unusual challenges in the tuning of slow tempi in unison and octaves; solo passages for piccolo, flute, bassoon, oboe, clarinet; and a rapidly moving second section in which the principles of fugato and counterpoint are thoroughly exposed and exploited. The result is a powerful piece in which the promise of the dramatically patient opening section is fulfilled in a wild flurry of rhythm and volume at the end. Yet all of it is perfectly logical and pleasing to the listener."

The work has been recorded on the Sony label by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra - an ensemble made up of Tokyo's finest professional symphonic musicians.
